Chapter Four : Chambers

23. Powers and functions of chambers

23.1A chamber may take such steps, as it deems necessary to protect its interests with regard to the confidentiality and security of its information and may, for that purpose, and with the approval of the Board, be exempted from some of the provisions of this constitution.

 

23.2Each chamber has the power to—
23.2.1elect its own office bearers;
23.2.2establish its own secretariat and committees subject to any conditions that the Board may determine;
23.2.3liaise through the chamber co-ordinator and in consultation with the Chief Executive Officer with other chambers of SASSETA or other SETAs as it may deem necessary for the execution of its duties.

 

23.3A chamber may with the approval of the Board, perform such functions as may be necessary in its sub-sector including but not limited to—
23.3.1formulating sub-sector skills plans;
23.3.2promoting learnerships;
23.3.3quality assurance;
23.3.4making recommendations on the funding and allocation of grants;
23.3.5management information services;
23.3.6employment services; and
23.3.7formulating a business plan.

 

23.4A chamber is entitled to such percentage of the skills development levies collected in its jurisdiction as the Minister after consultation with the SETA may determine.
