7. Purpose

7.1 The Policy and Criteria for CAT is intended to promote learners’ articulation/learning pathways and lifelong learning, their access to new learning and the avoidance, where possible, of the repetition of learning they have already acquired.

 

7.2 The purpose of the policy for CAT outlined in this document is to provide guidelines for the General and Further Education and Training sector regarding the development of institutional RPL, CAT and assessment policies in the context of the national policies developed by SAQA and within the GFETQSF.

 

7.3 The Policy and Criteria for CAT strengthens the implementation of the NQF objectives, especially to:
(a) facilitate access to, and mobility and progression within education and training and career paths (section 5(1)(b) of the NQF Act); and
(b) accelerate the redress of past unfair discrimination in education, training, and employment opportunities (section 5(1)(d) of the NQF Act).

 

7.4 This CAT policy and Criteria:
(a) facilitates the development of credible, efficient and transparent processes for CAT within and between the sub-frameworks of the NQF; and
(b) intends to benefit individuals seeking to progress between qualifications and part-qualifications and the world of work.
