(1) | It is an offence for any natural or juristic person other than a co-operative registered in terms of this Act to— |

(a) | hold itself out as carrying on the business of a registered co-operative; |
(b) | use or authorise the use of the words "co-operative", "co-op", "co-operative Limited", or "co-operative Ltd" as part of its name. |

(2) | Any natural or juristic person found guilty of an offence in terms of subsection (1) is liable to a fine not exceeding one million rand. |
