12. Unlawful use of words required to be part of the name of a co-operative

(1)It is an offence for any natural or juristic person  other than a co-operative registered in terms of this Act to—

(a)hold itself out as carrying on the business of a registered co-operative;
(b)use or authorise the use of the words "co-operative", "co-op", "co-operative Limited", or "co-operative Ltd" as part of its name.

(2)Any natural or juristic person found guilty of an offence in terms of subsection (1) is liable to a fine not exceeding one million rand.
